  A slightly more luxurious nature to the 2008 than the great 2007. Full-bodied with a lovely framework of acidity and dry fruit, such as apples, pears and peaches. Opulent. Dense and muscular. Yet, it’s balanced and harmonious. Line of acidity at the end. One for the cellar. Release in 2020. Drink or hold.

  Taittinger's 2008 Brut Blanc de Blancs Comtes de Champagne is being released this year, and it will be worth a special effort to track down. I wrote in August 2019 that this is the finest Comtes de Champagne since the brilliant 2002, and this tasting confirmed that. Offering up a deep and complex bouquet of citrus oil, crisp orchard fruit, warm brioche, crushed chalk, blanched almonds and smoke, it's full-bodied and incisive, with excellent concentration, racy acids and a long, searingly chalky finish. While this is already immensely impressive out of the gates, this 2008 is clearly built for the long haul, and three decades' longevity won't be a challenge. (WK)

  Taittinger’s 2008 Blanc de Blancs Comtes de Champagne is simply breathtaking. I have tasted it many times over the years in various trial disgorgements and it has never been anything less than compelling. The final, finished wine captures all of that potential. Bright, focused and wonderfully deep, Comtes is a fabulous example of a vintage that expresses so much energy but with real fruit intensity, the signatures that distinguish it from other vintages (1996 comes to mind) that were similarly taut, but more austere in the early going. Although the 2008 impresses right out of the gate, it only really starts to open up with several hours of air. The 2008 Comtes represents the purest essence of the Côtes des Blancs in a great, historic vintage. Readers who can find the 2008 should not hesitate, as it is a truly brilliant epic Champagne that no one who loves the very best in Champagne will want to be without. (AG) 98+

  The balance between ripeness and acidity that is the hallmark of this fine vintage is expressed well in this impressive wine. Tangy, with a strong streak of minerality, it is crisp and rich at the same time.   Lemon to gold ingot, bright and welcoming, an impression enhanced by a fabulous nose of sherbet, brioche, lemon posset and Mirabelle plum. All things nice. The palate is gently luxurious, its sophistication rippling with nuance rather than sheer vulgar power, yellow fruits, the gentlest hints of honey, crushed chalk and then a silky citric grip. In these rather claustrophobic times, the wine carries us along the Corniche in an open-top car, vintage naturally enough, the azure backdrop at its purest on this, the finest of Spring mornings.   This wine is full of extroverted toasted brioche and the bouquet is among the most generous that we have in stock. In the mouth, the chalky, concentrated power of the vintage comes out- this wine is packed with white flowers and pain au levain in the middle. The finish is as long as they come, and this is where the wine does its best trick, switching from powerful to elegant, from concentrated to refreshing, all while charming me with kaleidoscopic complexity that goes on and on. Looking back at my notes on the excellent and very well priced 2007 Taittinger "Comtes de Champagne", I had compared that vintage to Puligny-Montrachet because of its limey drive. This 2008 reminds me of the graceful power of Chevalier-Montrachet- it has it all.

  This is truly a stunning bottle of bubbles! This 2008 Comtes De Champagne is from only the best parcels of the Cote de Blanc and aged at least 10 years on the lees. It is incredibly layered with stone fruit, minerality and citrus and is neither too heavy or light. After each sip, the wine showed more complexity and nuances that kept me going back for more. We've had many great 2008 Champagnes in the store, but this Taittinger is one of my favorites!

  I have a strong "practical" streak...maybe even miserly? I reuse my clean aluminum foil, rinse out my zip-lock bags, save scraps for stock etc. So sometimes it's better when I get to try fancy champagne without knowing the price. Now that I've had this glorious bottle, I am indeed hooked. Generous in every way, without being at all heavy. And while I think you could easily put it down in your cellar - for once, here is a prestige cuvee that is firing on all cylinders and ready to be savored right now! A splurge, yes...but with all the money I've saved on aluminum foil, a bottle I will be buying again!

  Elegant. That's my first reaction to this fine bubbled champagne. The delightful notes of buttery, crisp, lemon citrus tantalizes my senses as I am completely blown away by this 2008 vintage, which is one of the best vintages in champagne. I especially enjoyed the brioche composition that holds all the flavors together -- which to my surprise included some savory characters too. It really DOES have it all and would be the perfect bottle for any special occasion, holiday celebration or gifting.

  This special all-Chardonnay offering from Taittinger has a nose that swells with lemon, cream, stone fruit, and suede with a beautiful bead of minerality. The palate's character wonderfully manages to be zesty and creamy at the same time. Fruit flavors of cherry and apricot with a little butter make this very approachable and fun. Meanwhile, very fine bubbles create a rather elegant texture for soft sipping.

  This Champagne is the sheer perfection. It is so incredibly complex and multidimensional! Bright and powerful with deep concentrated flavor, it mellows down on the finish and gently sparkles on your palate for a very long time. It seems to be precisely balanced to the point that not a single aspect of it sticks out. The crisp acidity, light toasty and brioche notes in combination with mineral and citrus notes create Champagne that can rival any other higher priced cuvees. With the holiday season quickly approaching this should be a must gift for literally anybody.
