The 2018 Saint Joseph les Oliviers Blanc is approximately 80% Marsanne and 20% Roussanne, all barrel fermented and aged almost entirely in used oak (there is one new demi-muid in the mix for the 2018). It's impressively rich and honeyed, with sweet, fruity notes of grilled pineapple balanced by hints of white pepper and brighter citrus notes. Full-bodied, creamy and lush, it remains lively and fresh on the finish—a wonderful paradox that the Gonons seem able to bring out in all of their wines. (JC)
Always one of the leading whites in the appellation, the 2018 Les Oliviers Blanc from the Gonon Brothers comes from a single terroir located just outside of Mauves, in the southern part of the appellation. Sporting a vivid gold hue as well as killer notes of quince, buttered citrus, honeyed minerality, and white flowers, it’s full-bodied, has bright acidity, and is perfectly balanced. I’d be happy to put this stunning white in a blind lineup of top Hermitage Blancs. Drink it any time over the coming decade or more.
Quite rich and buttery with apricots and peaches on offer with a sweet, fleshy and ripe palate that offers good weight and achieves some freshness at the finish.
A gentle, sun-warmed fragrance of almond and linden. It's very broad and silken in your mouth, and has gentle vibrancy and tension despite the very low acidity with a tremulous finish. So pure and authentically Rhône. This comes from two hectares of very old vines south of Tournon grown biodynamically on steep granite slopes. (MW)
