The 2017 Pinot Noir Bien Nacido Vineyard comes from a Santa Maria Valley vineyard and was brought up in 40% new oak. It offers a beautiful blast of spiced strawberries, black cherries, scorched earth, and ground herbs. Rich, nicely textured, medium to full-bodied, and loaded with fruit, it's a beautiful wine from this estate. Drink it over the coming decade. There are a scant 290 cases produced.

This single-vineyard expression mixes cherry with turned earth, crushed slate and hints of smoke on the nose. There is excellent structure on the palate, where crisp pomegranate meets with underlying elements of game, delicate dried herbs and more smoke. It is complex and savory yet refreshing enough to enjoy all day. *Editors' Choice* (MK)
