Another beautiful wine is the 2014 Two Blondes. It's a sweetly fruited, supple, downright sexy beauty that offers cassis, graphite, licorice, and hints of leafy herbs. Big, ripe and opulent, with a great texture (it's actually more elegant than the Ciel du Cheval), it will drink beautifully for two decades.
Another beautiful wine is the roughly 600-case 2014 Two Blondes Vineyard. A blend of 56% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Franc, 15% Cabernet Sauvignon and 9% Malbec, it's a sweetly fruited, supple, downright sexy red that offers loads of cassis, graphite, licorice and hints of leafy herbs. Big, ripe and concentrated, with a great texture (it's more elegant and seamless than the Ciel du Cheval), it will drink beautifully for two decades. (JD)
Chris Camarda and his partners in this vineyard, Bill and Melody Fleckenstein, planted this parcel only in 2000, so with each passing year, the vines get older and the wines get more complex. The 2014 vintage finds the blend from Two Blondes composed of fifty-six percent merlot, twenty percent cabernet franc, fifteen percent cabernet sauvignon and nine percent malbec. The wine comes in listed at 14.5 percent and delivers superb aromatic fireworks in its mix of cassis, dark berries, coffee bean, a touch of mocha, gravelly soil, a touch of cedar and a smoky topnote. On the palate the wine is ripe, full-bodied, focused and nicely velvety already on the attack, with lovely mid-palate depth, ripe, suave tannins and fine balance and grip on the long, complex and very classy finish. This is absolutely superb and built to age long and gracefully, but is so impeccably balanced out of the blocks that it is deceptively easy to drink right now! I would still let it blossom with at least a handful of years in the cellar, for as good as it is to drink today, it is going to be far better down the road! 93+
Beautiful violet-like florals with wet stones, red plums and cocoa powder. Boysenberry, too. The palate has a succulent, smooth and even-handed feel, offering up deep plum flavors in an effortless, flowing mode. A class act. 56% merlot, 20% cabernet franc, 15% cabernet sauvignon and 9% malbec.
Bright, dark red. Slightly porty aromas of currant, cherry, mocha, dried herbs and milk chocolate. Plush, round and edge-free, with sexy spicy and floral tones as well as a leafy quality to its red berry and dried herb flavors. Much fresher in the mouth than on the nose, but still with an essential softness from the Merlot, even if it has the structure for mid-term aging. Finishes with dusty but ripe tannins and sneaky lingering sweetness. (ST)
