Dark fruit, some leather already and a hint of herbal liqueur. Tobacco and sweet blackcurrant fruit, too. Full-bodied with chewy tannins, lots of plum character and a fruit-forward finish.

The 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon is nearly 100% Cabernet Sauvignon with a bit of Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot, aged 19 months in both French and American oak (27% new French and 10% new American). A relatively good-sized cuvée of 15,700 cases, the wine is narrowly constructed compared to the proprietary red blend. It has an opaque purple color and hits the palate with much more fruit than the somewhat more restrained and reticent aromatics suggest. The tannins are relatively supple and the wine dense, medium to full-bodied, but needing time to open up and develop additional nuances. (RP)

This big, ripe wine is soft and round, with integrated tannins. It evokes licorice, blackberry jam and toast on the palate, with mountain sage and molasses notes that linger on the finish. (VB)

Inviting and complex, featuring a firm mix of red and dark berry flavors and subtle earthy, gravelly notes, ending with tight, well-defined tannins. (JL, Web 2017)
