The Zanj rums represent a new brand from one of Haiti's oldest distilleries. Berling S.A. was cofounded by Labbe Barbancourt in 1862. The San Zanj translates from Haitian Creole as "Without Angels' - a referecne to the unaged nature of this cane distillate. Coming primarily from the heriloom variety of Madame Mueze and farmed organically this is one of the worlds fine cane spirits. It is sourced from the 2 clairin producing estates and one rum only production facility on Haiti all of which are using creole column stills from the first half of the 1900's. All three are located in the agriculture rich plateaued region of Port-au-Prince known as Cul-de-Sac and were selected by Master Blender Herbert Linge Barboncourt due to their perfect expression of the tropical dry style of Haitian spirits.
