It is interesting that this was the first time I had ever tasted the 1990 Asili, and the couple of times I had tasted the 1990 Rabajà, I had tried it alongside other vintages of this superb cru. Consequently, I had never tasted either wine amongst its vintage peers, and I wonder if my scores would be different if these were paired up with their counterparts from 1988 or 1989 for instance. In any case, the 1990 Asili showed beautifully at our horizontal tasting, offering up a pure, stunning and still fairly youthful bouquet of cherries, grilled pigeon, red curry, a touch of anise, stunning soil tones, nutskin and a lovely topnote of spices. On the palate the wine is deep,. full-bodied, complex and very soil-driven in personality, with a nice touch of sappiness to the red fruit at the core, fine-grained tannins and superb length and grip on the focused and complex finish. Fine, fine juice. 94+
