Blackberry, star anise and juniper. Only medium-bodied for a Châteauneuf, but this has plenty of impact and intensity. Lovely bright acid line and sense of freshness from start to finish. Silky and voluptuous. 95% Grenache; 5% Mourvèdre, Vaccarèse and Cinsault. Grown on sand in lieu-dit Les Bédines, destemmed, fermented in concrete, then matured mostly in foudre except for 25% in demi-muid. (MW)

It’s beautifully done and well worth purchasing.
The 2019 Chateauneuf du Pape Les Safres is impressively rich and ripe, delivering velvety layers of black cherries and blueberries, combined with hints of dried spices and dark chocolate. Full-bodied, expansive in the mouth and long on the finish, it looks to be an excellent example of Les Safres, which is 95% Grenache from Les Bedines. (JC)
