One of the best wines we've ever tasted from Domaine de Marcoux. 92 points Robert Parker: "The 1995 Chateauneuf du Pape Vieilles Vignes is another blockbuster wine that represents the essence of old vine Chateauneuf du Pape. The grapes are harvested when very ripe, with an element of what the French call sur-maturitie, which translates to 'over-ripeness.' In English, this has a negative connotation, but in the French language, it is used in a positive sense. The 1995 appears to be the greatest Cuvee Vieilles Vignes since the monumental 1990. The opaque purple color is followed by aromas of licorice, jammy cassis, spicy underbrush, and a suggestion of white flowers. An extremely rich, full-bodied Chateauneuf with fabulously concentrated flavors that taste akin to a liquid skyscraper on the palate, this is a stupendous example of Chateauneuf du Pape that is remarkably well-balanced despite its massive size. This wine's thick, almost excessive richness nearly obscures its formidable tannin and structure."
