Wonderful perfumed aromas--rich, complex coffee, currant, vanilla bean, anise and blackberry--with flavors to match. Intense, with firm, vibrant fruit and tannins, seemingly with a long way to go.--1993 California Cabernet retrospective. (JL)
Made with a high percentage of Cabernet Franc in the blend, Viader's proprietary red wine is Napa Valley's answer to Cheval Blanc. The interesting aromatic profile offers an intensely perfumed bouquet of black and red fruits, spices, menthol, and floral scents. Medium to full-bodied, with a Bordeaux-like mouthfeel, the emphasis is on finesse as opposed to power. The 1993 Estate possesses gobs of sweet fruit, with the Cabernet Franc dominating the wine's personality at present. Although it will not be released for another year, it has the potential to develop into an extremely complex, aromatic wine of considerable stature. In a blind tasting, it would be difficult to pick this wine out as a California Cabernet Sauvignon. (RP)
