Deep garnet-brick colour. Fragrant aromas of dried cranberries, prunes, cinnamon and cumin giving way to subtler earthy notes of leather and tar. A lot of discernable fruit remains on the palate framed by crisp acidity and a medium level of grainy tannins. Very long, layered finish. (LPB)
Aromatically complex, with enticing floral, perfumed fruit and spice, cedar and cigar box scents. Delivers a rich, complex core of earthy currant, mocha, exotic spice and fresh leather flavors. Tannins are well-integrated, with a long, vibrant, pleasantly earthy aftertaste. (JL)
The 1993 Opus One is a wine of pure impact. The fruit is front and center in this bold, juicy Cabernet Sauvignon. Slight elements of brett detract from the wine's balance, but the 1993 has enough depth to drink well for at least another decade, if not considerably longer. The blend is 89% Cabernet Sauvignon, 7% Cabernet Franc and 4% Merlot. (AG)
Still quite youthful crimson though a slightly weak rim. The oak seems a little dominant on the nose. Sweet, exotic, tealeaf flavours. Nice balance but a little muted somehow. Tannins still very much in evidence. 41 day skin contact is a pretty serious extraction program! 17/20 Points (JR)
