Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
A wine of great intensity and richness, it displays classic notes of licorice, barbecue smoke, creme de cassis, cedarwood and forest floor. Full-bodied with sensational purity, a multidimensional mouthfeel and a long, voluptuous finish with no hard edges, it has only reached mid-adolescence, and has at least two decades of life ahead of it. (RP)
Very Bordeaux-like in its complex cedar, currant and anise aromas. Firm, concentrated and still quite tannic, it is bold and rich, with layers of currant, plum, mineral, cedar and tobacco flavors, many of which are still in their youthful primary stage. While it is certainly approachable (best decanted) it appears to have the concentration and stuffing to go another decade. (JL, Web Only-2005)
96 points, Neal Martin's Wine Journal: "Tasted at “The Wine Treasury” vertical. Another bewitching Insignia, here again with lifted, high-toned black fruits with hints of espresso and Provencal herbs. Every swirl of the glass and that bouquet gains ever more intensity and complexity. The palate is full-bodied, a lot of extraction here and there is some new oak still to be subsumed into the fabric of this ambitious, decadent but beautifully crafted Insignia. Comparing it against the 1994, this 1995 would seem to be the vintage born with the most longevity. Full of nuance and style. Awesome." (09/2009)
