The 1997 Chardonnay possesses a crisp, medium to full-bodied, honeyed pear, apple, lemony-scented and flavor. This wine has an uncanny aging potential, and is powerful, but its lack of barrel and malolactic fermentation gives it a refreshing, zesty, Chablis-like personality
Aromas of pear, grapefruit, honey, resiny oak and earth. Creamy-sweet but brisk in the mouth, with a strong apple flavor. Boasts a nicely layered texture and noteworthy intensity. Finishes quite firm, with a flavor of baked apple. I'm not generally a fan of non-malolactic chardonnay from this part of Napa Valley, yet the Chateau Montelena wine is consistently interesting-and ageworthy
