The bouquet is quite complex, albeit, still a bit weedy in the style of this bottling back in the day, offering up scents of cherries, cigar wrapper, a touch of dill, menthol, petroleum jelly, cardamom and smoky American oak. On the palate the wine is deep and full-bodied, with a slightly more four-square profile than the ’77 Bella Oaks paired up with it. There is good depth of fruit still at the core, modest tannins and a long, tangy and very nicely balanced finish. It is a very good wine that has aged gracefully and still has plenty of life in it for further keeping. Drink between 2017-2040.
