Founded in 1861, the Charles Krug Winery was the first in Napa Valley, sold to Cesare and Rosa Mondavi in 1943. When Cesare died in 1959, their sons took the helm, Robert as General Manager and Peter as Vice President. In 1966, Peter took over the role as President and Robert moved on to start his own winery in Oakville. The 1978 vintage in Napa Valley was rated 92 points by Robert Parker. Plump, ripe and forward in youth, this wine's style mirrors the vintage. It reveals lots of cedar, earth, and tobacco in maturity. When stored in ideal cellar conditions, this can be a very long-lived wine. Fully mature, drink now.
