James Laube: "Very ripe, hard and tannic with ripe plum, anise and currant flavors, but it is still rather tannic with ripe plum, anise and currant flavors, but it is still rather tannic on the finish...My notes on Spring Mountain go back to 1977, a wine that has aged gracefully. That wine was followed by a fairly hard, tannic 1978 that may never shed its tannic veneer." (The Wine Spectator's Ultimate Guide, California's Greatest Cabernets, pg 343) One of California’s premier, mountain grown Cabernets. Originally four individual historic Napa Valley properties, Miravalle, La Perla, Alba, and Chevalier were combined to create this 850-acre estate of forest and vineyard on the eastern slopes of Spring Mountain overlooking the town of St. Helena. Over 225 acres of the estate are planted to vine, creating 135 separate hillside vineyard blocks. Each of these blocks has unique soils, exposures, and mesoclimates that provide Spring Mountain with some of the most interesting complex fruit this side of the Atlantic. Wow!
