In the 1970s, Louis M. Martini was among the Big 5 of Napa Valley producers, known for producing exceptional wines of character and finesse. This 1978 California Cabernet Sauvignon is one of the signature wines of the period and, according to critics, a wine has that has held up well. Professor Bainbridge, a respected wine blogger, wrote: "...it was eminently drinkable indeed, quite tasty. The flavor profile was that of a tawny port: mostly nuts and dried fruits, prunes, figs, and dried apricots on a caramel base."
