The 1998 Sonoma Coast bottling is already a very good drink at age four, offering up a deep and pure nose of black cherries, a bit of blood orange, woodsmoke, mustard seed, solid soil tones and just a bit of vanillin oak. On the palate the wine initially was a bit tight, but blossomed beautifully to offer a full-bodied and impressively deep palate impression, with good chocolatey fruit at the core, good focus and good length on the modestly tannic and juicy finish. 90+
Ripe and complete, with focused black cherry, plum, anise and floral notes framed by light oak. Finishes with a pretty berry and mineral edge. (JL)
