Deep ruby-red. Spicy, concentrated aromas of blackberry, black plum, cassis, mace and lead pencil. Large-scaled, generous and creamy in the mouth; very round and suave. Offers superb sweetness without being at all over the top. Finishes with substantial ripe, dusty tannins and palate-saturating length. This is beautifully balanced for early enjoyment but has the structure to develop in bottle for eight to ten years.
Ridge is now using a Geyserville designation for its proprietary red wine, still composed largely of Zinfandel. However, in 1991 the Zinfandel component is less significant than in 1990, representing only 50% of the blend. The balance is 30% Carignan and 20% Petite Sirah. The big 1991 Geyserville has 14.3% alcohol, but there is so much fruit that the wine's power and alcohol are masked. The color is deep ruby/purple, and the nose offers up fragrant ripe aromas of black fruits, minerals, and oak. Surprising elegance is allied with super-concentrated, rich fruit. The finish is all fruit, glycerin, and lushness.
