The chateau feels the 1989 vintage of Mouton-Baronne-Philippe is its best wine in over three decades. It exhibits a very forward, creamy richness, gobs of velvety fruit, a heady alcohol content, and a fat, lush finish. (RP)
Dark shaded rusty/ruby and not as intense a colour as the 1986 tasted alongside it. Sweetly fragrant. Gentle texture with some brûlée notes and a hint of iron filings. Fresher than stereotypical 1990. Attractive, pretty, relatively light wine perhaps just past its peak. But it has taken on sweetness and charm since I last tasted it in 2010. (JR)
Reminds me of Port, with nuts and spices on the nose. Full-bodied, with soft and easy tannins and leather, berry and spice on the finish. Starting to dry a little now. (JS, Web-2010)
