Sourced directly from Moueix cellars. A little more maturity on the rim compared to the 1990, less glossy than the bouquet on that wine, perhaps with a little more Cabernet Franc showing through. Quite earthy, touches of burnt toast and just a hint of liquorices. After a few minutes, more intellectual than the ensuing vintage. The palate is full-bodied with very good fruit concentration: blackberry, pain grille, liquorices, a touch of spice with great definition towards the finish with just a faint hint of anis right on the finish that turns into espresso. This is showing beautifully, perhaps a little dry on the finish but full of character. (NM)
A traditional wine of autumnal aromas of leaves, game and fruit. Medium- to full-bodied, with velvety tannins and a big, chewy finish. Needs time. (JS)
