Tasting Notes

Perched atop Spring Mountain, high in the Mayacamas Range, are the beautiful vineyards that make up Robert Keenan Winery. Since the 1977 harvest, the winery has been steadily earning its reputation as a producer of wines of character and and intensity. This wine, from the early days, is a testament to the longevity of mountain fruit, and the concentration of flavors and richness of hillside fruit. From Richard Jennings of RJonWine.com: "Dark red violet color; menthol, tart cassis, eucalyptus nose; poised, youthful, balanced, eucalyptus, cassis palate; medium-plus finish. 93 points. This was when Joe Cafaro was still the winemaker at Keenan. Made in his prototypical style -- concentrated, ripe and focused. Each of the 1977, 1978, 1979 and 1980 vintages are all still just reaching their peak, with seemingly another 10+ years of high plateau ahead of them." (04/2010)
