90 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Deep garnet-ruby. Complex nose combines plum and berry fruit, wild mushrooms, damp earth and subtle oak. Firm and structured, with strong fruit complicated by a tarry nuance. A nicely balanced, medium-weight wine with very good intensity and persistence." (July/Aug 00) 89 points Robert Parker: "The medium garnet-colored 1997 Chianti Classico Riserva exhibits a complex nose of smoke, dried berry fruit, truffles, cedar, and smoke. Sweet black cherry fruit intermixed with herb and spice notes are presented in a nicely-layered, soft, well-structured format. There is some tannin, adequate acidity, and excellent delineation. Drink it over the next 6-7 years." (08/2000) According to the Wine Spectator: "A Chianti Classico with a good core of berry, mint and cherry character. Medium to full body. Medium tannins and a long finish ... Drink now through 2005." (10/2000)
