Very attractive, bright strawberry and blueberry aromas here. Superb freshness and attractive fragrance with focused, fine textural detail on the palate. Disgorged in December 2017.
The NV Brut Rosé Majeur is also outstanding and offers a slightly exotic style in its floral, spicy, raspberry-scented aromas. This medium-bodied Champagne has sharp acidity, solid balance, and a clean, lengthy finish. Give bottles a year. The blend is 50% Chardonnay, 40% Pinot Noir, and the balance Pinot Meunier, all of which spent three years on lees.
Bright orange-pink. Fresh strawberry and tangerine on the lively floral nose and in the mouth. Spicy and incisive, with sappy red fruit and rose pastille flavors underscored by juicy acidity and a subtle chalky nuance. A mineral element adds bite to the finish, which hangs on with strong tenacity and repeating floral character. Six percent of the Pinot Noir component in this blend is in the form of still Pinot Noir from vineyards in the Montagne de Reims. (JR)
The current release of Ayala’s Brut Majeur Rosé is still from the base year of 2013 and was disgorged in July of 2017. The wine is composed of a blend of fifty percent chardonnay, forty percent pinot noir and ten percent pinot meunier, with six percent of the pinot noir component being still red wine from Aÿ. The wine was finished with a dosage of seven grams per liter and offers up a very pretty nose of tangerine, chalky minerality, white cherries, a gentle whiff of smokiness and a topnote of white flowers. On the palate the wine is full-bodied, crisp and well-balanced, with a good core, pinpoint bubbles and a long, snappy finish that closes with impressive mineral drive. Good juice, but now wide open and probably best drunk up over the coming decade. (Drink between 2018-2028)
Aromatic notes of fresh basil, spice and citrus zest accent the juicy white cherry and biscuit flavors of this fresh rosé Champagne. The firm, focusing acidity is well-meshed to the fine mousse and flavor range. Disgorged March 2017. Drink now. (AN)
The NV Brut Rosé Majeur is delicate and understated, with pretty red berry and floral notes that grace its mid-weight frame. The dosage is perhaps a bit high, but that is a relatively small critique given how much there is to like. Disgorged: March 2017. (AG)
