Leeuwin Estate is located in Western Australia along the Margaret River. Unlike the warm Barossa to the south, the climate in this region is much more temperate and better suited to growing Bordeaux varietals and pinot noir. The '97 Leeuwin Estate Cabernet is a big red with plenty of ripe currant, berry, and smoky oak aromas leading to a full palate with a long focused finish. This cabernet will age well for the next 5-10 years. 93 points Stephen Tanzer: "Deep red-ruby. Complex aromas of plum, woodsmoke, iron, minerals, olive and spicy oak. Very deep, lush and sophisticated; layered, velvety and highly aromatic in the mouth. Finishes very long, with extremely fine tannins. This bottling has been consistently superb in recent years." 91+ points Robert Parker.
