A prodigious example, the 1998 tastes like liquid minerals intermixed with honeyed grapefruit, lanolin, citrus, smoke, and passion fruit. Full-bodied, with good acidity, plenty of structure, and a tremendously long finish, it remains youthful and tight, but the upside is awesome. (RP)
Gorgeous and generous, with loads of apple tart, cream and vanilla aromas that follow through to a dense and rich palate with layers of apple tart and cream flavors. More like a red wine in density. (JS, Web Only-2009)
Very subtle, complex nose melds citrus scents, honeysuckle, butterscotch and coconut, plus a whiff of fresh herbs. Fat, thick and strong in extract; a waxy semillon quality and peach and citrus flavors give the mid-palate lovely sweetness. Very firmly structured, almost like a red wine. Very long finish features a repeating note of coconut. (ST)
Pale gold – looks almost like a fino. Haunting nose – though it was apparently opened quite soon before serving – unlike the reds that were opened a good three hours in advance. Lightly pungent. Quite harsh with a sweet palate entry. Much firmer and more structured than the Musigny Blanc 1992 with which it was served. I could imagine enjoying this with a meat dish. This is well past its early drinking period (probably 2005-2010) but was much livelier and more pungent than a 1982 tasted a few days later. This is a red wine that happens to be white. Between its two drinking windows? (JR) 17.5+/20 points
