K&L Notes

This house is making a big comeback. A big toasty nose leads to a convincing, rich palate impression and a clean, refreshing finish. The wine is made from 50% Pinot Noir, 35% Chardonnay and 15% Meunier, and vinified without malolactic fermentation. The fruit comes from all Grand and Premier Cru areas within Champagne and it tastes like it!

This wine is now aged for four years on the lees and shows it with wonderful toasty brioche notes on the generous nose. On the palate and the finish, this wine is impeccably clean and racy thanks to the blocked malolactic fermentation. This makes the wine not only a very refreshing aperitif, but also an excellent Champagne to pair with food and we found it a great partner for the sushi. The richer rolls were especially well married with this bottle.

Using no malolactic fermentation, you get a lot of fresh fruit from this sparkler and all the creaminess comes from time spent aging on lees and extensive backstock of reserve wines going into this cuvee. The nose has pretty citrus, poached pears, and a lovely toastiness. The palate has brisk acidity, fresh pear, peach, yellow apple, and chalky minerality.

Lanson is back and with a bang! What a wonderful thing it is too. Nice richness, apple/peach fruit a lovely bready edge and a very nice texture. This is a Champagne that is easy to love.

A house that is just finding its groove again, The full Lanson lineup is full of killer juice and the "Black Label," cuvee is no exception. This is a clean, presise drink that's full of plusher doughy notes underneath the great acidity. An aperitivo extraordinaire, this is a great production from a historic house.

Lanson has taken the past few years to vastly improve its quality and practices, and its efforts have certainly paid off. With 4 years of aging on the lees and 30% reserve wine going back to 1998, one would think this would be a very toasty, rich Champagne. That is not the case. Because this wine does not go through malolactic fermentation there is a beautiful line of acidity here, thought the brioche and slightly yeasty characters still peak through. One of the original Champagne houses, dating back to the 1760's, Lanson needs to find its way onto your radar as a very affordable, delicious, powerhouse producer.
