Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
The 1997 Cabernet Sauvignon Alexander Valley is a dense purple color with boisterous, sweet, spicy, new oak, licorice, and olive notes. This flamboyant wine tastes lighter than I would have expected for a 1997. In the mouth, it reveals medium body, sweet jammy cherry fruit, and a soft finish. (RP)

Ruby-red, with a hint of development at the rim. Classic California cabernet aromas of blackcurrant, tar and menthol. Began slightly lean and herbaceous but seemed to put on weight and gain in texture as it opened in the glass. Firm acids are a bit tart but not quite spiky. Finishes firmly tannic, with a faint greenness and a note of coconutty sweet oak. (ST)
100% Cabernet Sauvignon. Current tasting note from the Silver Oak wine library: "Our 1997 Alexander Valley Cabernet Sauvignon has a ruby rim and a dark, opaque hue showing few signs of aging. It offers savory aromatics of spiced meats along with strawberries and chocolate. The mouthfeel is remarkable in its balance, with dense and broad texture alongside flavors of sandalwood leading into a finish with excellent length. The 1997 is showing very few signs of slowing down. Decanting suggested. Given proper cellaring, this wine can be enjoyed now through 2025."
