Ripe blackcurrant aromas and flavors are lifted by pungent graphite, cedar and mineral notes. Balanced, pure and smooth in the mouth, with excellent perfume and precision. Finishes long and pure, with lingering cassis and leather notes. This is another Lynch-Bages that has picked up volume and flesh from bottle aging. It's a very classic Pauillac and a wine that can still improve with additional cellaring. (ID) 91+
Ex-cellar bottle tasted blind at the Lynch Bages vertical. Very ripe on the nose, blueberry, a touch of iodine, blackcurrant wine gums, cedar. The palate is medium-bodied with quite thick tannins, a little chewy and linear, quite succulent, rounded, blackberry, a hint of dates, citrus freshness towards the finish. The 1998 has a lot of energy and pizzazz about it. Drink now-2020. (NM)
