The 1985 Talbot is faintly marked by brettanomyces, and for those who find this characteristic more objectionable than I do, this may be a wine that they may wish to avoid. But, for those who can tolerate a bit of brett, there is a lot to like here as well in its complex bouquet of black cherries, cassis, cigar smoke, lovely, gravelly soil tones and a touch of residual bell pepper still in residence in the upper register. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied, suave and beautifully balanced, with a very good core, fine focus, moderate tannins and lovely length and grip on the classy finish. Good juice for those of us who can tolerate a bit of brett. Drink between 2013-2040.
Extremely fragrant, supple, expansive, and elegant, this fully mature 1985 has a dark garnet color with plenty of pink and amber at the edge. Fleshy, medium-bodied, and smooth as silk, this wine has excellent balance, loads of fruit, and a low acid, lush finish. (RP)
Big, ripe, raisiny, earthy fruit bomb. Full-bodied with loads of flavor and tannins. Long and rich. (JS)
