Tasting Notes

Welcome to a brave new style of winemaking. The Bellande family is the new owner. Michel Rolland is the consulting enologist who is changing a lot of the methods, especially great focus on the vineyards. The wine is made up of 34% merlot, 10% petit verdot, 56% cabernet sauvignon and displays red licorice aromas with hints of mocha and spice, and a unctuous mouthfeel. Stephen Tanzer: "Good medium ruby. Inky aromas of cassis, licorice and mint. Initially a bit dry and rigid, but showed better fruit intensity, pliancy and fat with aeration. Finishes with slightly drying, tongue-dusting tannins, good length and a late hint of dark chocolate. An improvement over recent vintages. The right bank's Stephane Derenoncourt is now consulting here." (May/June 2000) Robert Parker: "The 1999 Prieure-Lichine reveals notes of red currants, earth, dried herbs, and oak in a medium-bodied format. This is a light, soft, pretty but unsubstantial effort." (04/2002) The Wine Spectator: "Aromas of coffee and spices, with hints of fruit. Medium- to light-bodied, with fine tannins and a slightly diluted aftertaste." (03/2002)
