Dark ruby color, with some garnet undertones. The nose shows ripe plum, as well as green coffee bean character. Full-bodied, with very soft and round tannins and ripe fruit. Turns to coffee, sweet tobacco and berries on the finish. Give it another couple years to mellow. 1998 Piedmont blind retrospective. (Web-2008)
Good deep red. Aromatic nose combines floral, tobacco and smoky elements. Sweet red fruit and floral flavors framed and lifted by harmonious acidity. An ample Barolo with clarity and class, not to mention superb balance. Finishes with perfectly buffered tannins and excellent persistence. (ST)
The 1998 Scavino Barolo Bric del Fiasc, tasted from magnum, is one of the more accessible wines of the vintage. It reveals a super-ripe, concentrated style with notable inner sweetness and perfume. The finish is long and silky although the 1998 doesn’t have the sheer pedigree of top vintages here. (AG)
